Eight Songs to Celebrate Going Back to School

With the calendar moving into September, the nights drawing in and the last gasps of summer dying off, it’s time for the little ones to head back to school. We’ll admit to knowing that most students north of the border have been back for weeks but the sentiment remains.

For most parents, it’s a relief finally sending the kids back. It’s been six long weeks and time to celebrate. What better way to do that than with Kool and the Gang.

It’s a celebration!

For the rest of us, the six weeks of traffic bliss are over. Who taught all these kids to drive? Seriously, I thought you needed to be 17. Either way, it only conjours up a Chris Rea classic.

Maybe a few months early for his other driving song…

Let’s hope the little ones actually pay attention when they get there. The whole point of school is learning. Though Pink Floyd may disagree somewhat.

English grammer rules may be fluid but Pink Floyd’s double negative seems to be somewhat pro-education.

School themed rock classics don’t end with Pink Floyd. The Police took a somewhat darker look at life in the classroom.

An entirely fictional story from The Police.

Quite a few years later, Busted (before all the McBusted stuff) took a look at the same problem from a different angle.

Less learning and more lusting in the classroom from Busted.

Busted were by no means the first to express their extracurricular interests. Van Halen were also Hot for Teacher.

A Van Halen song you don’t hear too often.

While all that was going on in the classroom, Mötley Crüe were being a bit more rebellious. Smoking in the Boys Room, of all places!

Not advisable in today’s world of smoking bans and fire safety regulations.

And finally, to cap it all off, we come back to remembering it’s September. What better way to do it than mis-interpeting Green Day’s classic.

A suprisingly emotional song from Green Day.
